Updated the super zoom function to support the more than 76,000 photos currently on our site of the hottest jocks anywhere! I just rolled out a software upgrade and will be rolling out more this week. Please let me know if the super zoom is working correctly and report all bugs/suggestions/etc to profile #14.

Worked at the datacenter for part of the day on getting some of our servers finally back up and running. One is back up and currently restoring and the other is currently in my office. I pulled it out of the datacenter after repeated attempts to fix it failed. The good news is the pulled server is an older one and will be replaced with a new server! Please keep the donations up! Happy 4th of July! I just got back from a working vacation with my family. Thank you for your support and I do appologize if there was any delays with responses to emails, questions, chat room verification, etc. I am available and live in the video chat for questions and photo verification. Please note that Video Instant Messaging is currently down. This only effects the video instant message one on one chat and the buddy preview. The Online Buddies List, instant E-mail pending/sending, instant they viewed me, etc. are all functional. Working on the issue and will update you when it is working again.

Got back from a very short working vacation in Denver and the blizard of 2005 was not very harsh but wow did it do a number on the mountains! I will have to post some photos.

Microsoft posted several security updates and patches yesterday and last night I took all of the servers down from 3am-6am to apply and do some general maintenance.

Video Instant Messaging updates including more accurate displays of members online, corrected issue of volume level slider sticking, upgraded database tables responsible for reporting Video IM info and added additional security to video chats. Fixed issue where new IMs where showing error page.

Added upload queue cleaner. If you experience problems uploading files or the same file posts over and over even when uploading different files this means your upload queue is either full or contains a corrupt file. To clean the queue on the far right of the Photo/File manager there is a Clean Button. Click this if you see it since it only shows up if you have items in your queue.

Upgraded the E-mail system to support our new supporter levels. Added additional ccBill supporter donation options for members. Fixed bug with leap year b-days. Added the Profiles Next in Last Search and Previous in Last Search back to the profile header for supporters only. This is a very resource intensive function and offering it free would be a challenge with our current setup.

New members profiles that join the site are reviewed by myself before they go live or they can donate and go live instantly. This is due to the number of profiles being created that were not appropriate for our site and the additional time required to review, inspect, contact, re-review, remove, etc. This improves our site since profiles that are not appropriate have yet to donate nor past a full review.

Video Messenger now allows you to choose the connection speed and fixed a few connection related issues with it. Buddy Live Preview was worked on as well fixing a few bugs which were causing some members video not be displayed when they started to share their video streams.

Upgraded the Support Options to now reflect recurring billing like before. We advertised for 6 months beyond the 3 months stated for the one time single donation option. Recurring billing is as low as 3 bucks a month so please donate today!

Worked on database clean up removing old, suspended and closed membership data. This included some votes which caused the total number of votes to be lowered. This only reduced the total number of votes and not your rating!

Finally put into production updates to the video chat, updates to the video instant messaging system, video instant messange manager and more! You can now share your cam as a video stream and allow others to see you online *LIVE*. No more guessing if people are at their computer or around to chat -- you can now see all of your buddies video streams in the video messenger LIVE. Add my membername or the membername live tv for a sample. Will add more information later about this and several other new features for the video streams.

Many updates around the site including updated support levels, updated ad engine, additional video services, and something very unique...

Just about everything now is *LIVE*! No more waiting around to see who is viewing your profile -- you can now see who is viewing your profile LIVE! At the bottom of the video Instant Messenger there is a module which updates as your profile is being viewed. In addition as buddies of yours view your profile you can see this activity as well! New Emails show up LIVE from or TO your buddies! Global Chat allows you to chat with everyone on the site at once for when you are really looking for some NOW!

If you do not report that you are having an issue or that you cannot connect or such it will not get fixed since I will not know about it! We are a ***MAC FRIENDLY*** site! Working on the video instant messenger server, video streaming server and the JockBod Radio server. These services will be up and down until around 9am EST. Video Chat server is UP AND RUNNING! We are adding more bandwidth to the video messenger server which will make the video messenger run faster and not slow down some members machines when they run it. The www02.jockbod.com and my.jockbod.com are both down for maintenance please use www.jockbod.com only for today! We are in the process of setting up the new web server which will make the graphics on the site load a lot faster and page times will also be improved! Don't forget to DONATE!!! Your donations go directly into the site development, new servers, marketing and more! The more donations we receive the faster we can upgrade our servers, add new features, write faster code and more! Next we will be upgrading the search function and member areas. Thank you!

Just put our new web and database server up. This project started back in December 2004 with the ordering, installation, testing and final configurations of several super fast servers for our site. This comes at a cost though so if you like the speed of the site please DONATE! Now that these servers are in place I can roll out the newest changes to the site, enhancements and new stuff. Don't forget to join us in the video chat! It's really getting hot in there!

We had a database server crash this morning. It was a new server I installed recently with a faster processor and hard drive. Earlier this AM, between 5am-6am I switch the site over to this database server and everything worked. A few hours later the server crashed but the site is back up now and the primary, secondary and backup database server are operating just fine. Time to call Dell! :)

Pushed out a new version of the JockBod Radio. The previous version when one mebmer stopped the player, they all stopped. New version only stops your stream.

A ton of updates are now live on the site. I would like to thank all of the beta testers that helped out in testing this version of the software. We are now at Rev 1.99 about to go 2.0. You will see many of the new features of the new site in this version including the following:

* New Layout for Search w/ hide search frame, photo only lists, double lists for wide screen viewing, improved speed page controls, adult filters and more!

* New Member Areas with easier to use navigation and the tabs are real tabs now :)

* Improved E-mail with attachments, full E-mail History on every E-mail you send and receive, Emails are easier to read and nicer layout, improved E-mail page which only refreshes the frame you select (if you select Inbox, open an E-mail and then select Sent Items, your E-mail that you opened will not disappear only the E-mail List changes!), Full E-mail Replies with links to all replies, and more!

* My Hot Jocks & Stuff is now separated into 4 different areas including My Hot Jocks, Jocks that find Me Hot, Private Notes AKA Bookmarks but with the ability to add notes, and Blocked Profiles.

* Changed the left navigation in the Member area to more easily show and hide the site's navigation.

* Changed the Layout of the Member's My Account Screen.

* Added Video Chat System!!!

* Added Radio JockBod!!!

* Changed the layout of the Profiles to Fit more Tabs... More to come with this. Changed the Profile Super Zoom graphic to new professional one.

* Added New Left Navigation with better highlighted links and improved for member access.

Updated the profiles to show both the Hot Jock list for that profile and the profiles finding him hot! You can also see who likes each other because they are highlighted and have the word Both next to the member name. As always you can return either that member's Hot Jock list or Who Finds them Hot by clicking the link at the top of the table. There is also a search box for this information in the left search frame (as before) but if you guys want I can add a parameter to sort the list by the date that you were added or only those guys that added you in the past 24/48 hours...

The My Hot Jocks & Stuff got a major face lift today with the addition of color codes for those members you find hot and also find you hot back. Also you can now see who marks you as Hot in the order they are marked inistead of by the member name so you can see by each day how many jocks are listing you. As with the past, if you guys want to see your Hot Jocks or Who finds You Hot returned as a searchable list, just click the text link at the heading of the table (fix a bug where they were reversed) and you can do so. If you guys want more search or features on this page please let me know.

Fixed problem with the tables on the site not displaying correctly with IE on Mac OSX. The issue was causing text and areas of the screen to appear out of place (only on Mac OSX IE).

Fixed issue with Search Box Left Frame not displaying Properly in IE on Mac OSX. Issue caused big gaps in the different search areas.

Update the teaser image for the Ultimate Model Contest! Hundreds of guys have already entered and our contender list is not complete until you to enter! So enter now while you still have the chance because you could be the next Ultimate Model!

Made minor improvements and face lift to Members Photo Verification page. This page now, should, only read Member Photo Verification and no longer Photo Validation. This was getting confused with E-mail Validation. Also the warning stating that photos uploaded to the Photo Verification page are ***NOT*** visible to other members and are ***NOT*** displayed in your profile will soon have Las Vegas lights flashing around it, fireworks and a school of rainbow fish swiming around it. Actually I think we may need a translation solution or perhaps I need to finally get a spel chek program?

We now offer many new Support Upgrade options that are non-recurring so you will only be billed once! After that you be contacted to support again if you so choose. There is a new upgrade status called "Ultimate Supporter" which will be granted additional perks and permissions when supporters join at this level. Please consider making a support donation today so we can continue to grow and improve our site. After PayPal.com closing our account they stoped honoring all support for our site even the support options you choose to send to us, scheduled or in progress. This closed out all supporters from making payments they choose to make and in addition put a hold on our funds for up to 180 days! New policies in effect for homepage links in the profiles. In an effort to keep our profiles up to date and current we now display homepage links for 30, 60 or 90 days depending on your support level. Updating your profile takes less than 10 seconds on our site thanks to auto login and the quick update button located on the My Account page. Simply turn on auto login and when returning to the site click the My Account link, then click the Quick Update! That's it! Just 2 clicks and your profile will show up in the updated list and your homepage will be displayed again for the period you qualify.

Homepage links will be displayed in your profile for 30 days from the last update if you are a non-supporter, 60 for Basic Supporters and 90 for Premium Supporters. If you would like your profile displayed longer please contact me!

Profiles can now contain bold, underline, and italic text using HTML code. The instructions are pretty straight forward and given on the Profile Update page. To update this make sure you are logged in, then click the "My Profile" link and finally click the "Basic Info" link located on the left under the My Profile Tab. You can also add smilies to your Profile Header, emails and a few other areas. Here are the codes but this is not a complete list some are to be found out by you guys!

Added a new Step by Step bar to the new member pages when creating a profile so you know how many steps there are and which one you are at. You can click the text in the Status Bar and jump from page to page as well before finalizing your profile.

Updated the About Us Page so that everyone can get to know me better! Added additional text to help with online Profile creation and modification. Added a required login for certain information on the site so that spam bots will not pick up this information and us it. The ICQ Field in your profile must only contain numbers to display.

The Support JockBod Page is back up and functioning with ccBill as our processor. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and JCB. If you would like us to more or different transaction types, such as check or a 1-900 phone payment in the future, please let me know! The current PayPal customers subscriptions are not being honored by PayPal since they closed our account. We ask that everyone with a PayPal account to please switch over to our new system at your convenience. The Support Options offered are currently only one year non-recurring upgrades to memberships. We may offer quarterly and monthly support options again in the future but this is not likely since the transaction fees for processing credit cards increased with our new provider.

Upgraded the members area to better support Opera and Mozilla browsers. Upgraded the Gallery Access page to show you the list of private pictures available for sharing. Added more layout guides to the member's profile area so that the check boxes are grouped for a better layout. Changed the layout of the photo/file manager so that it is easier to use. Did some spell checking on the site finally ;)

PayPal decided to shut us down last night. It appears that their policies restrict all websites that contain any form of nudity on them. Until our merchant account is finalized through another provider we are accepting support via postal mail. Please E-mail us at profile #14 or webmaster (at) jockbod dot com for more details. I am calling this the Mac upgrade. There appeared to be an issue with AOL's browser on Mac. I went out and bought a Mac for about 1,500 and started testing the site July 4th weekend. I did find some issues and I believe they are all corrected and the site should be working for Mac users who are using AOL for OSX! If you are having an issue let me know! Thanks!

So IE does not support the very standards they claim to support. Well tell me something I don't know or haven't figured out through lots of work. It appears that some of the graphics we served up were to 'complex' for IE to display. This is not the technical term for it but it gets the point across. For the techs out there, IE does not support PNG as a graphics format even when they say they do. Case in point the graphics engine I wrote for this site serves up PNG graphics (since they are a lot better quality and also contain alpha layers) to browsers that only support PNG graphics. IE, even the versions that support it, were not 100% showing the graphics. So we switched back to JPEG which is the origional format.

I also optimized the search and profiles for the final time before they are changed completely. The next version of the Search Engine and Profile page will give everyone a few features that they all want. One of these is the ability to *not* use the top and bottom frames to display ads. Another feature is going to be the ability for the profiles to be more dynamic per your request to our servers and based on what you put in your profile. Sound cryptic? It should for now but when you see it in action you should enjoy because 1) You get to choose the layout and 2) you get the specify more format features in your profile!

Lots of work over the weekend on 2 projects the we will be releasing more info on later this week. Please contact me if you are using an operating system that could be considered non-windows/mac based so I can test out this new software for you guys! Thanks!

Our new web server is in place and now taking a considerable load off of the old server. You should see some faster load times. Currently there are 2 more servers in line for install next month. Since I build them by hand we are able to purchase them at a reasonable rate and it just takes time to install, configure, test and put into production. Hope everyone likes the new server(s) let me know if you find anything that I might have missed!

Our tests on the new server are almost over. Sorry about the Who's Online list being so high but we needed to capacity test the new server before installing it. The Who's Online list should be back to normal in 24-48 hours.

The who's online list is currently displaying some high numbers due to our new server we just installed and we are capacity testing it which currently creates a ton of users on the server. This gives us statistics on how much capacity this new server can hold (how many users). The numbers will be high for about 48 hours or so. Thank you!

E-mail addresses in ads are no longer allowed due to abuse from SPAM search engines going through the site and lifting these addresses. Once lifted the address is used to send SPAM to and send SPAM ***FROM***. This means that people will receive emails from ***YOUR*** E-mail address -- including SPAM, Viruses, etc. SINCE OUR INCEPTION WE NEVER ALLOWED EMAILS IN ADS TO AVOID THIS BUT PEOPLE FOUND WAYS AROUND THIS.

We are now restricting all ads that display E-mail addresses. These ads are still displaying but the particular section of the profile that displays an E-mail address or even a close approximation to one is now hidden until changed or the address is removed.

We recently planted a ***FAKE*** E-mail address in an profile to test out how fast SPAM engines would pick up this E-mail address and abuse it. Within 1 month we received over 100 Emails containing SPAM, Viruses and even Spoofed addresses. A Spoofed Address is when a SPAMMER or Malicious person sends out Emails that are addresses ***FROM YOU***. Not Good and this is how they do it. You see E-mail and Postal Mail are not that different. To send out a postal mail you fill out 2 parts the To address and the From address on the paper envelope. What is to stop you from addressing this piece of postal mail from Santa Clause or Elvis? The From address on Postal Mail contains no security, no authentication and anyone can put just about anything or nothing at all. E-mail IS NO DIFFERENT! You can address Internet E-mail from anyone!!!

This is why ***FROM DAY ONE*** of this site we supported a private and protected E-mail system! This eliminates this issue and stops spammers from lifting your addresses. Now that we support Auto login, 100+ photos in your galleries and Photo File Attachments we are going to enforce this policy and require everyone to use our E-mail system. NO BECAUSE we want to do this but because of SPAMMERS and Malicious persons whom are abusing your addresses! By using our internal site E-mail they cannot lift or abuse your E-mail because they never get it unless ***you*** give it to them -- So Beware!!!

Database Maint. everyone's favorite because after the maintenance everything is faster! Working on the database server and rebooted both the servers and reset the web server so that everyone can start fresh and faster! Upgraded the Top Lists to show Quick Views. Added extra optimizations to the database requests on all several of the search pages. You may wonder if there is an end to optimizing the database requests and such. Never. The reason is the database is constantly changing, the size and data structures are always changing to meet our current needs, we are adding new features which require fine tuning, etc. One example is a single search we do which is about 500 lines of computer code. To optimize this properly it takes a few hours. There are 10,000 lines of code total in the search engine alone -- I think you can do the math on that. Now profile the new features, changing data, increasing database size, etc. It is a wonderful challenge to have -- a growing database of members :) Thank you!

Security upgrade caused a server outtage for about 30 minutes today. Sorry about that, we upgraded 6 of our servers without issue before touching our webserver and wouldn't you know that one was the only server to have an issue. Such as security upgrades go you apply them when released to the servers that are your staging servers to test if the upgrade will work and then finally to your live server. We did this but unfortunatly no system is perfect and the security software caused a short outtage. This is not part of our software and the site is back up and running again.

Upgraded the graphic engine to the latest version which allows you to specify the type of pages you can view. This changes the size and amount of information sent to your browsers for a high quality, balanced or faster site!

I am still trying to list all of the new features but each time I start I forget them all and begin all over! LOL I guess this is what happens why you work through Memorial Day, your birthday (29) and Gay Day at Disney to finish upgrades for your site! Not that I am complaining I really do enjoy all of it and I do love my job. As I learned at an early age, the man who loves his job never works a day in his life! Ok so I work like 20-40 hour shifts, but hey, I like doing it!

So far we are about 1/4 the way through the upgrades to the software. It took 6 months to write all of the new software and it is going to take a few months to implement it! What is new for today? Well first thing is the profiles now have all the details of the personals search list. The private photos are now going to water mark like promissed! (have to reboot server tonight to work). The secondary servers are back online which means the site is a LOT faster! Sorry but when you are doing upgrades it is easier to work on one machine and not many!

KNOWN ISSUES
* Mac users (especially Safari users) are reporting bugs when tring to view images, resize the thumbnails and change galleries. We are currently working on resolving this. Please accept our appologizes for any problems you are having! The Mac population on the site accounts for about 6% of all users. We do not use Macs and because of this often run into issues. If anyone has a Mac capable of running OSX please let us know! We are interested in one being donated! If we get one then we will be able to test our software on this platform.

* Dead pages are currently being reported by users. We are aware of these and our automated reporting software is currently processing 2 - 4 of these an hour. You may think this is a lot but we process 12 million pages a month so 4 an hour x 24 hours x 30 days = 2880 page errors a month for an average of (check my math please!) 0.00024% page error percentage. Considering we just did a major upgrade I think this is not to shabby!

* Watermarks are not yet showing on the Private images. They will after we reset our servers tonight!

* Currently we test our software on 2 dozen different browsers and operating systems. We test on the following operating systems: Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Window NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP Media Edition, Windows Server 2000. Donations of other computers will expand this!

We currently test our software on Internet Explorer 5.5, Internet Explorer 6.x, Netscape 7.x, limited testing on Netscape 4.x, AOL 4, AOL 5, AOL 6, AOL 7, AOL 8, AOL 9, AOL Beta, MSN 8, MSN 9, and a few others. If you are using a browser that is NOT IE OR NETSCAPE then please report issues or try using the latest version of IE or Netscape to surf our site. It is 100% impossible for us to support 100% of all browsers, operating systems, etc. We try to support as many as possible!

Major Upgrade today! Let me know if you find any bugs or issues and please send me feedback on everything! We are almost at version 2.0 of our site. Only 150 functional additional and enhancements left for v2.0! Now at version 1.9x and holding for any changes before the next big upgrade.

What's New in Today's Upgrade and Details About These Upgrades?
Galleries Info
We needed a way to store more than 20 photos. The current setup only allows for 20 photos per profile. We are expanding this to as many as you want within the space granted. The only way to show these photos/files without having 100+ photos running down the side of your profile was to split them into 'galleries'.

Will there be More Galleries in the Future?
Yes! And much more to come!

How many files per gallery?
Currently we are limiting it to 60 files. Within the near future we will allow as many as you want within the file space available for your membership.

What type of files?
Currently we are going to support about 40 formats of graphics, sound and video. You will be able to watermark all material as you probably have noticed already.

Private Gallery Info
Private Galleries allow you to restrict access to files to only the persons you select. There are 2 types of gallery access 1) File Level and 2) Gallery Wide. Why not use a Password instead of Access Control?
Password protected galleries do not work and never have. Yes, you heard it here and you can quote me on this. When you give out a password to access a gallery or photo you basically have just given out that photo to everyone. Once someone has the password they can E-mail 1,000 people that password and then they all can access you file(s) without your permission!

Our system is different because we require anyone attempting to access your private files to verify their full membership information before we grant them access to your files. Members are no likely to give out their E-mail address and password to 1,000's of people -- would you?

We also track all of this information so that abuse can easily be viewed by both us and YOU! You also will be granted special access control rights which will allow you to limit the time amount people have to view files, number of views and MORE!

How do you stop People from Copy My Private Files? We are the only site on the net that I know of that can. The fact is this: NO SITE can stop a member from copying your picture once they are granted access to it -- Not even ours. This is because in order to 'view' a file someone MUST download that file to their local machine to view it. This is TRUE OF ALL INTERNET SITES!!! What we do is prevent that member from sending out the file after they have been granted access to it.

But I thought you said we could stop people from copying our files? Yes! So you read the above and understand that *ALL* files that are viewed on a website must be downloaded to view -- FACT. All sites allow your files to be downloaded to view --FACT. Any site with Private or Restricted content SENDS THIS CONTENT TO YOUR MACHINE for you to view and thus you can copy and re-use -- FACT.

JockBod.com is different though! New Quick View
The quick view links allow you to see the history and more information about a specific item. This is useful for E-mail history or private notes AKA Bookmarks.

New Search
Search is now full screen with *NO* ads other than us begging for support. Enjoy it! I do not know how long it will remain like this but we are working on quite a few search enhancements which you will see very soon.

Gallery Access Control

Updates on E-mail, IM and profiles are currently in progress this AM and throughout the day. The newer error reporting code is allowing use to detect and fix problems faster than before and even detect errors that the user does not see. This will create a more stable site for everyone! E-mail and the My Account pages were upgraded. Please let us know if there are any issues related to these upgrades. The IM system is going to have a major overhall next so watch for some great new functions!

IM Manager now has extra features such as Return to Site, Mail Alert and more which are being added over the next few days. Our E-mail is currently sending out enhanced mail alerts which tell people more information about emails they receive and several other issues are patched in this current release.

Worked on fixing E-mail alerts being sent to the people who wrote the E-mail instead of the person it was for and it appears it is now working again. Worked all night on several key upgrades to our mail system which may show up with some issues today. Please be patient since these updates are directly going to improve the site based on member feedback! Your emails and E-mail addresses are never shared nor have they been. The glitch that appeared yesterday was with emails being sent out to the wrong addess (yours) and not the person you sent your JockBod message to. Please report any issues with the E-mail system today as we are working on upgrading it all day and through the evening.

Updated the backend security and administrator emails for better use and functionality. Added new anti-spam, solicitation and more software to the E-mail system. We have had very few issues with spam but we are trying to be proactive in this area since everyone hates SPAM! Added New and Updated several E-mail features which will be available over the next couple of days after beta testing. Also updated the E-mail so members only wanting to browse the site and not receive Emails can do so but when they turn off their E-mail they can still contact administrators if needed for questions or help.

Updated the help, page error and warning screens on all of the E-mail pages to help members understand or guide them to what goes on, why it does and how to get around or work within.

Also updated the IM software to all it let you launch a new window back to the site or E-mail. It now shows you if you have new mail, if you have popups off it will popup your E-mail automatically, and allows you to return even see.... more to come!!! We are aware of several bugs in the IM software and are beta testing a new version for release soon.

Also updated the backed E-mail Alert system easier member tracking. Now when a JockBod Alert (such as new E-mail sent to you) occurs, the member's Profile number, E-mail referrence tracking number and more are sent in this E-mail Alert as well as what it is in regards to such as New E-mail or a Reply. The text for all emails is now upgraded to reflect 1) the type of Alert, 2) detailed instructions on how to access site, 3) what we will NEVER send you (such as attachments, images or links to other sites), 4) detailed instructions for reporting abuse, 5) the details on how to change your E-mail alerts at anytime. Looks like we had some problems with E-mail after our upgrades this am. Sorry about that! Emails will no longer error out if their is no subject. If an E-mail cannot be sent for some reason it should redisplay that E-mail on screen. This way you should not loose any information (but not 100% working). This is a big improvement but not a 100% solution just yet.

For members looking to stay logged on for lengthy periods of time, you should leave you IM Manager open. This keeps your account logged in and you available for IMs if needed. Away messages coming soon :)

Finished the upgrades for the new error handling system. This allows our pages to gently send an error to you and send us all of the details instead of having the members copy and paste them to us.

Wow! 2 Years and still going strong! What a month this is going to be! We have spent months developing new features, functions, making updates just for our 2nd anniversary celebration! Over the next couple of weeks you will see many changes to the site, content and well you'll see (wink).

Had to reboot the database and web servers down for about a half an hour today. Added several patches last night around 6am and they did not require a reboot but after looking at the logs this afternoon it looks like they did. Sorry about that!

It appears there was a suspected malicious person today trying to slow down our servers. We have seen this type of abuse before and quickly removed their access. I guess all of our hard work last week to improve the speed of our site paid off because the old servers probably would have come to a complete halt. While the site experienced some slow down it did not crash or have any real problems. Fortunate for us the suspect is restricted from accessing the site (forever), their information was forward to our datacenter for a full access ban on all servers at the center and the data from our report will be sent to the appropriate authorities which, by the way, we have gotten to know very well over the past several years. The database server will be taken down tonight for maintenance probably around 3am EST. Thank you!

Had a network outtage at about 4am at the datacenter we host at. The outtage created some problems accessing our site. The datacenter reported as of 11am that their routers where reset and they were able to access our site from multiple routes around the net. We were not able to though and did not get full functionality back to the servers until a little after noon. Fortunately I was up at 4am to working on the servers to notice the problem and was able to get to the datacenters to work on the servers physically. Since I could not communicate with them over the Internet they required someone at the actual machine. **** Posting this Message as of 1pm Saturday 3/20/2004.*****

As of 3am all of the web servers are running and we have begun the database upgrades. By about 6am the database server have been installed and operational! The web servers are now using the new servers and the site is not yet up to speed due to several reasons.
1) The database servers are not fully syncronized
2) They have not been fully backed up from their, now working, state for fail over purposes
3) They are currently tracking all access so we can optimize them durring the day
4) The web server are still using the older drivers incase we have to fail over to the old servers

As of Noon Friday all servers are sync'ed, backed up and ready for action! Sorry but to do this right I have to take the site down for a few minutes to make a fresh start with our new servers!

As of 2pm and all is looking good. What some stats? Ok well before we started pages where loading between 4-12 seconds on average. After the upgrades we are now seeing pages loading in the .01 - 3 second range. Simple searches where taking 2-20 seconds depending on the request and they are now taking are .05-4 seconds. Complex searches were biggest pain on the old servers and on average could take up to 30seconds and sometimes a full 60 seconds! Yikes! I just ran the most complex search I could think of and it only took 15 seconds. The second time I did the search with slightly different parameters it took about 2 seconds. Initial searches can take longer since the data must load. Afterward you will see the biggest improvement.

I think that I have slept only a few hours this week and haven't been to the gym since last week. As much as I would like to go to sleep right now we have new servers and I don't want to stop working on them!

So What all was added you ask? Well for security reasons we do not release a lot of information about our server architecture or software. What I can say is that we lost 2 servers due to hardward failure last Saturday night at around 2am or so (actual time was 2am Sunday morning). The site was down from Sunday at 4am EST to about 5am Monday (<>24hours). We took the 2 old servers out, purchased 6 new ones and were able to completely build 4 new servers on Sunday and install them by early Monday am. The 2 old servers and 2 of the new servers where brought back to the office. 2 of the new servers did not want to work for some reason and it wasn't until Wed. that we got it up and running. The final new server is sitting on the workbench and I should have it finished by Monday.

You may ask, all of this for a single site? Well no, there are actually a family of sites that we run and are planning for capacity for the future. Our previous servers lasted 2 years and we are hoping these will too!

FAQ for Upgrades
During the upgrade process I received some pretty interesting questions and comments. Some were funny and some where informative. Here goes:

1) The site is down! Why don't you do these upgades when no one is on the site?
A -- Our site opperates 24/7 so there is time when no one is on the site. What we do is take the site down when the least amount of people are on which is usually between 2am and 6am. Now that we have a farm of servers we can take down a few of them at a time without having to take them all down -- in effect solving the problem.

2) !!!!!!! THE !!!!!!! SITE !!!!!!!! SO !!!!!!!! SLOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (10 emails from the same person sometimes twice -- or more -- a day)
A -- We are in the process of upgrading the servers to provide you with a faster free site. Your patience during these upgrades is appreciated since there is nothing we can do to speed up the site up until after the upgrades are finished. Daily posts and messages were viewable by everyone as to the status of the upgrades. A message like this one does not offer us the information we really need to correct any problems. Instead of saying the site is slow a more informative E-mail is, "Viewing of profiles is very slow on my machine. Is there a problem with the site that you are aware of?" or "while viewing a profile I received an error of 'Error #o24343 ASP Termintion Process' at 9:05am'. Both of these E-mail contain the most basic information necessary to help correct problems with the site.

Finished upgrading the web servers around 6am and the files are moving from the old servers to the new servers. With 100,000+ files this takes a while. The files should all be moved over by the end of the day. You may notice that the servers are not much faster--yet. This is because all of these files are currently transfering and hogging the bandwidth. Once they have finished we will be able finish our upgrades with out backend servers and our standby servers!
There were a few bugs with this upgrade due to an optimized driver to our database server. The older database server did not like the newer drivers so some functions on the site did not work and some users where getting timeout and page errors. We put the older drivers back in place and these errors disappeared. Please remember to report all errors to us at webmaster@jockbod.com. Please include the page name, area of site the error occurred, copy and paste the actual error into your E-mail and just tell us what happened -- That's it! You help us create a better site and what do you get? Members who fill out bug reports correctly and we actually find a real bug/errors qualify for FREE upgrades on their account! So look for bugs and get free stuff!

All night server upgrades went ok. We are now partially operating on the new servers and some old. Looking forward to Thursday and Friday which will be the final move.

(Writing this at around 8:30am Monday the 15th)
Started working on upgrading our systems on Saturday night around 1am and by 2-3am was pretty deep in some serious system erros that are not supposted to happen. By 4am Saturday or more accurately Sunday morning the hosting center was contacted to put a monitor or the web servers to find out what the issue could be since remotely I could not even contact some of our servers. Readers Digest version was the servers were not starting up nor were the tech people able to help me. Of course it took about 3 hours or so for us to relize this point and about 30 seconds for me to talk them into letting me come in on a Sunday and do the work for them! ;) Honestly this hosting company is the best I have ever worked with and they have been a bleasing to this site. By 10am I was working on the web servers and realized that I should just bite the bullet and do the upgrade now while the systems where already down. I had pieces and parts of the servers I had on order for the end of this month. The only pieces that I did not have I went to CompUSA, BestBuy and PCGenerations (in Tampa). After 3 trips to CompUSA (they know me by name there anyway -- Thank you Kevin!) I was contemplating if my AMEX card was going to bounce, if the numbers had been rubbed off or if I would have to start doing hotter shows on the web cam to pay for all this (yes it will be back up the older servers stopped being able to handle the bandwidth a few months ago) and I was out of town for much of Dec-Jan --- see below.

Thankfully CompUSA had a sale or the few thousand dollars a trip I was spending could have been a lot more painful! The techs at the datacenter where amazed that I had 6 new servers in total infront of me *ALL IN PIECES* and had the ambition to put them all together from scratch, install all the software and configure them by MOnday am. For those of you who don't know this a server can take a day or more to setup if something goes just the slightest bit off. I had 6 of them and about 12 hours... ( key up and play Mission Impossible music )

At this point you are probably wondering what the rush is for the end of this month... Well it is JockBod's 2nd Birthday or BodDay ;) We launched 4/2/2002 (did not want to do it on April Fools). My profile was the first profile created that day and a few of our beta testers also created ads. I finally ended up with profile #14... the first 12 were test ads and I didn't want to be 13 since I'm single and being the 13th profile on a profile site might be bad luck... Wow, do I sound superstitious or what? But you try starting up a dot com business on your own, with no investors, in a sagging tech economy at 27 years old and we'll see if you would want to open shop on a Friday the 13th or such :-P

By about 10pm Sunday night 4 of the new servers were completed and ready to roll. FYI: I did not have any help from the techs at the data center. I try to stay out of their way because they have enough work without me there and when they help out sometimes there is a bill along with it. Would you rather have 1,000 more hot Jocks added to our site or have that marketing $$$ go to a tech... I posted a note to everyone on the maintenance screen that we were transfering all the bio data, photos, etc. over and did not have the bandwidth to allow people to access the site and transfer everything over (while testing and configuring them) at the same time.

The final 2 servers where giving me a real challenge so by about 1am I put them away for later this week and drove home to start the remote configuration. So in total 2 servers were pulled and we gained 4 new ones! That is the good news... The bad news is however that they are not yet cranked up to full capacity. The next few days will be a nice burn in and give me time to finish the final two servers which happened to also be the fastest ones... Yes!

By about 5am our web servers were running again and all of our content was live. You may see some instances over the next couple of days where the site may slow down or that certain features may not appear to be working correctly -- PLEASE REPORT THESE!!! We are currently running stats again on our traffic (like last month when the site slowed down). Sorry but we have to do this to optimize the hardward and software.

Ok mate, if you made it this far then Thank You! It's 9am EST (found out last night I have to start putting the EST for our over seas Members/Mates) and yes I still love what I do :) and plan on a lot more in the coming months/years!!!
By the Way: To the memeber who somehow got my phone # and called to say thank you for the great site, that JockBod was one of his favorite sites and that he would send us a bundle since the site was down and he couldn't use our system to wire funds -- THANK YOU SO MUCH! You made my evening! but... One thing though, when calling from downabouts (i think that is what he said) to us states boys... remember there is a 10-12 hour time difference ;) Not that I was in bed.

Worked on the profiles so that they display properly in Netscape. Reduced Profile Foot Print so they display better in the 3 framed search. Removed the Sponsors links in the profiles, these where slowing down the display of our profiles by up to 300-500%, we hopefully will get more donations because of this to make up for the loss in revenue (hint hint). Made the Adult Pic Block only work when a page is requested. Now when you move your mouse over an image that is adult you can then see the thumb nail. Adult images are never sent to a browser unless they are specifically requested by that browser. Looking to change the Search List Adult block next. Changed the Super Zoom feature so that members can now super zoom on their images (only images in the Photo Manager) regardless if they have donated or not. Changed Members Photos area so that it is easier to delete images and added new text to more accurately describe the adult picture process. If you notice any problems with the display code let me know!

Changed the layout of the profiles by removing one of the lines at the top for a more room. Fixed a bug in the rounding function for profile voting. Ads in the top lists are not displayed if they do not a photo. Updated Ads to show web address or homepage. Added creation date to ads. Added Web Link to search list... More to Come!

Spent most of the past 2 months taking care of my 90 year old grandma. She is all better now and I am back in Tampa. Will begin to work more on the site! Yuppie! Grandma had a car door close on her leg and got a few dozen stitches in her leg. I was able to work remotely from her house by getting a DSL line in there. Was nice to spend a lot of time with here since we are very close. She is all better and full of piss and vinegar! Believe it or not she swims 4-8 hours a day in the summer and still drives her own car and takes care of her own home. Amazing woman and full of love and happiness :) I am very lucky to have such a wonderful grandparent that is still around and enjoys my company.

Finally over stomach flu and now I can start working on the site again. Been sick for about 4 weeks now and have lost about 10 pounds. What can I say, I look great now, but I hate being sick. Look for some new features coming soon now that I am back on my feet. Working on the database servers tonight so the site may be VERY slow.

Added new color codes for Customer Service Persons on the site. Customer Service Representatives have gold headers on their profile and have a CSR in the header. The webmaster has a black header and has web master in the header of his profile. The header of the profile is *NOT* the membername or title. The header is at the very top of the profile, which is a different color depending on what type of profile you have. The following is an example of the different color codes and what they mean:
